The Lydia Affect - Who's That Lady?

Updated: Apr 14, 2021

Welcome to my new blog, The Lydia Leader! In 2017, the Lord laid it on my heart to establish a mastermind group for women who desired to learn how to conduct their business, leadership and entrepreneurial affairs according to biblical and Godly principles. The initial mastermind group was called "The Lydia Leading Ladies." Sadly, the initial group of interested ladies didn't work out as planned. As a person who's been a member of several mastermind groups over the years, I completely understand the commitment, discipline and time necessary to be successful in these groups. For some, you don't know what you don't know. I sat this project down for a few years.

Fast forward to 2020 - The Lord gave me time and space to focus on those things He wanted me to work on. While going through the list of projects that were placed on hold or were new to my lap, Lydia kept coming up. Now, you may wonder who Lydia is in terms of biblical knowledge. The story of Lydia can be found in Acts 16:11-15; 40 and Philippians 4:2.

Who is Lydia?

Lydia was a lady who became the first to become a Christian during Paul's mission in the city of Philippi. Paul's encounter with Lydia at the gates of Philippi led to conversations that opened the way to faith and led her to conversion. Lydia's profession was in textiles colored with purple dye for which the region was famous for. Lydia's wealth afforded her the opportunity to live independently in her own spacious home. She was a gentile by birth, but worshipped the God of the Jews. Paul saw Lydia with a group of devout women who were gathered to pray at a place by the river outside of the city.

Simply put - Lydia was a believer, a boss, and a philanthropist.

Lydia's story expands on the financial role women played in the beginning Christian congregations that were being established. She and other prominent women gave from their resources to support Jesus and the disciples in their ministry. Lydia was a philanthropist who often offered hospitality and through the healthy assets she owned, was able to give freely and open her doors to all in need without losing herself or her money. Her selfless giving to her community was modeled after the self-giving love she showed Jesus. She is truly an example for all Godly women to follow.

The Lydia Leadership Project's objectives mainly teaches women how to think in fresh ways about our own leadership ability, entrepreneurial styles and business goals. How can we leverage our resources, knowledge, talents and gifts to make significant change and a difference in the world we live in? Like Lydia, we can use all of these things without losing ourselves and the security we depend on. The Lydia Leader Project is aimed to teach us how to express ourselves through love and shaping our relationship with Christ. What means the world to Him most is us realizing what empowers us and how to use that for the common good in our communities and world.

Stay tuned to how you can be involved with this amazing ministry.

Blessed and Highly Favored
